4 bodybuilding superfoods to help you save on supplements
Everyone is trying to get an edge with all different sorts of supplements. They bombard you with marketing materials daily that encourage you to spend your hard earned cash on another useless product. What most people do not know is, that many foods have the same effect as a supplement. Rather than waste your money on supplements, invest in something that will up your satiety, lower your hunger, and save you some cash. Some super foods will even enhance the utilization of supplements. Here are a few super foods that will help you with any fitness or health goals
Don’t laugh, this is not just for old people living out there last days in Florida. This stuff has some serious benefits and everyone, especially serious lifters, should consider putting in their diet. A great benefit of grape juice, is that it increases the absorption of creatine. When taking creatine with grape juice, the body increases insulin output to remove the sugar from your bloodstream. Also the hormone speeds up the transport of creatine into the muscles. Another great benefit of grape juice is that it improves the resistance to damage caused by free radicals. Unintended side effect: Your unflavored creatine won’t taste like crap if you mix them together.
Now when we talk about dark chocolate we are not talking about a Hershey’s bar. That would be milk chocolate; milk chocolate is altered with chemicals, other additives, sugar, and fat. We are talking about all natural cocoa nubs. Natural dark chocolate is high in polyphenols’, which are proven antioxidants. These antioxidants fight free radicals, which are horrible for you. Natural dark chocolate has more antioxidants than green tea and red wine. This great super food is also rich in antioxidant flavonoids, flavanols. Flavanols have been proven to lower risk of heart disease, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and diabetes. Plus…it makes for a great healthy candy.
For this amazing super food I am just going to list all of the wonderful things that are contained in these small, but potent super foods. Brazilian Nuts contain: protein, fiber, selenium, magnesium, phosphorous, thiamin, niacin, vitamin E, vitamin B-6, calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, copper, and high levels of arginine and flavonoids. These are also high in healthy fat, alpha-linolenic acid, this is converted to omega-3 fatty acid in the body. Essentially it’s a satiety providing, muscle building, energy wielding, vitamin providing, giant anti inflammatory.
Dates and Figs:
This is my favorite super food by far, since I am Italian. These two are the best dried fruits you can consume. Both of these are full of phenol antioxidants. They are also loaded with fiber. Dates contain the highest concentration of polyphenols among all the dried fruits. One thing I wanted to point out is how tough it is to get fiber in your diet. All those grains and rices you eat each day don’t really have much fiber. The main way to get is through vegetables…but here’s a very healthy and tasty alternative if prepared correctly.
My recommendation to everyone is to try to incorporate as many, if not all of these super foods, into your everyday diet. They will not just help you obtain your fitness goal, but will also help you become overall healthier
