Getting A Grip 14: A Bromantic Getaway
Another week down! You know the weeks seem to go slow up until the end here, but once the end is near, it speeds up and goes by before you know what’s happened. I still have tons of plans and have no idea how I’m going to fit it all in before I leave. I am flying out within the week and am working on packing my bags for departure. It’s surreal to be honest. Most of the goals I had set for myself were relating to this trip. I am so glad I have accomplished them, but now those goals will be completed upon my departure. I feel a sort of somberness in not having them anymore. Like feeling worried about what else to look forward to. I know there are many things and I’m ready to take them on. I just need a moment of establishment to get my feet running in the right direction.
With the end of my trip in sight, I decided to go on a getaway trip to a small resort town called Buzios. All of the Brazilians said it was very nice and not too expensive so my good friend Stefan and I booked the vacation. Both of us have been training almost everyday since getting here in September and it was time for a small break before heading home. Stefan has become one of the closest friends I’ve had while staying here so it was great to have him as a traveling buddy.
Buzios turned out to be exactly the trip we had hoped for. The town was surrounded by the ocean and was relaxed as can be. Our hostel was right in the center of the town and right against the beach. I don’t think we could have picked a better spot. Here is the ocean view from the lounge:
The people were friendly and gave us some tips on what to do and see. We ended up renting a buggy and go drove around and explored all the beaches and scenery there was to see. We immediately took our buggy to the beach to snorkel and went to look for sealife. We saw tons of fish and even got to swim alongside sea turtles! We finished up, got back in the buggy, and proceeded to drive around to visit as many beaches as we could within the day.
After getting lost while looking for one of the hidden beaches, we decided to just joy ride through the back roads and not worry about where we end up. We tore through the forest in our buggy in the most exciting driving experience I’ve ever had! Speeding up and down hills and trough curves in a mysterious scenic area only to stop to gaze upon some amazing place we stumbled upon along the way. Here are a few pictures of where we ended up:
The night ended with us exhausted and smiling ear to ear. We went to bed early to wake up and hop on a boat to go fishing with a local around a nearby island. Fishing is one of my favorite activities in the world but Stefan had never caught a fish in his life and was skeptical about spending the money on such event. But as it so happens, he caught 7 fish (the most of all of us) and told me he was shocked he had never tried it before. He said there was something incredible about pulling a fish out of the water.
The captain of the boat cleaned our catch and brought it to a local restaurant. We dined on our prize and filled ourselves to the brim with fish and fries. After we ate, the weather took a turn for the worst and we headed for cover for the rest of the day. We left the next morning and made it back home.
Now that we’re back, I am staying at Thiago’s mother’s house until I leave. His family was very generous and offered that I stay with them for the last portion of my stay. I have my own room for the first time in almost four months and I must say it feels wonderful!! Thiago and his family are certainly dear to me and I am so thankful for everything they have done. I am really going to miss them when I leave.
So as of writing this post, I only have two more training sessions to go in Brazil… I am going to make the most of what little time I have left on the mat. I hope I don’t get emotional in front of everybody haha. I will be planning another trip soon so I think that will keep me sane for now. I will make sure to write one last post while here in Brazil but for now this is all I have! I hope you have enjoyed reading as much as I’ve enjoyed writing. If you have any questions on my trip or on how to get your trip going, just ask and I will answer as much as possible! Thanks for all of the support!!! OSSSS
